Individuals who plan to apply to the Radiography, Surgical Technology, and/or Dental Hygiene programs are required to take the Psychological Services Bureau (PSB) for Health Occupations exam.

What is the PSB Exam

  • The PSB Health Occupations Aptitude Examination is used by applicants for admission to all of the various health care career choices and can predict an individual’s readiness and capability for successful completion of the educational program. The examination addresses the required prerequisite and acquired educational achievements commensurate with the objectives of the program. It comprises five separate tests that measure abilities, skills, knowledge, and attitudes important for success in the program and career choice.


How to Register for the PSB Exam

  • PSB registration forms will be available at the end of the year in the Academic Success Center (Vines Building, Room 202), Student Advisement & Career Planning Office, and from the Health Sciences web site.
  • The PSB exam may only be taken once per year.

Cost of the PSB Exam

  • Individuals are required to pay the non-refundable $25 test fee at the Cashier’s Office (Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center) and submit a completed registration form to the Academic Success Center in order to complete the registration process and reserve a seat for the PSB exam. Once a seat has been reserved, another $25 fee is required is change to another test date.

PSB Scoring and Results

  • The PSB exam can only be taken ONCE PER YEAR. Scores are good for two calendar years.
  • This is not a pass/fail exam. However, scores are uses in the ranking: the better the score, the higher the ranking.
  • The average PSB scores:
    • Surg Tech—240
    • Radiography—255
    • Dental Hygiene—260
    • Total points possible—380
  • Your test results will arrive at the Health Science Department Secretary’s office (HS 104) about two weeks following the test.
  • Do not call the Academic Success Center of Health Sciences Department for your test results; come to HS 104 with a photo ID.
