Individuals who plan to apply to the Radiography, Surgical Technology, and/or Dental Hygiene programs are required to take the Psychological Services Bureau (PSB) for Health Occupations exam.

What is the PSB Exam

  • The PSB Health Occupations Aptitude Examination is used by applicants for admission to all of the various health care career choices and can predict an individual’s readiness and capability for successful completion of the educational program. The examination addresses the required prerequisite and acquired educational achievements commensurate with the objectives of the program. It comprises five separate tests that measure abilities, skills, knowledge, and attitudes important for success in the program and career choice.

 

How to Register for the PSB Exam

  • PSB registration forms are available starting Nov. 19 in the Academic Success Center (Vines Building, Room 202) and from the Health Sciences website.
  • Registration should be completed at least 48 hours in advance prior to testing.
  • The PSB exam is given once a year, now with the possibility of retesting once. Must wait a total of 30 days before taking a retest. Registration process starts over with a retest.

Cost of the PSB Exam

  • Individuals are required to pay the non-refundable $25 test fee at the Cashier’s Office (Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center) or through the online portal. Then submit a completed registration form to the Academic Success Center in order to complete the registration process and reserve a seat for the PSB exam.
  • A single retest is allowed after waiting 30 days. This requires a new registration form and another $25 fee.

PSB Upcoming Test Dates

Testing for Spring 2020 will be completed online at the Gordon Kelley Academic Success Center (Vines 202).

Testing will take place between January 6th and April 15th at these times:

  • Monday through Friday at 8am, 11am, 2pm, and 4pm (Note: 4pm slot is unavailable on Friday.)
  • Sunday at 2pm

PSB Scoring and Results

  • Scores are good for two calendar years.
  • This is not a pass/fail exam. However, scores are uses in the ranking: the better the score, the higher the ranking.
  • The average PSB scores:
    • Surg Tech—240
    • Radiography—255
    • Dental Hygiene—260
    • Total points possible—380
  • Your test results will arrive at the Health Science Department Secretary’s office (HS 104) the following week of the test.
  • You will receive a copy of your score print off after the test.
