UAFS administers the ACCUPLACER Next-Generation tests, which are computer-based examinations to efficiently assess reading, writing, and math skills. Individuals may be required to take ACCUPLACER Next-Generation tests for placement purposes. On average, the ACCUPLACER exams take an hour per section to complete. You must apply for admission and be entered in the UAFS database before taking the ACCUPLACER Test. If you have not applied for admission to UAFS then please apply now to avoid delays.
Understanding ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Tests
Next-Generation Reading assesses the test-taker’s ability to derive meaning from a range of texts and to determine the meaning of words and phrases in short and extended contexts. Passages on the test cover a range of content areas, writing modes, and complexities. Both single and paired passages are included. Four broad knowledge and skills categories are assessed:
- Information and Ideas
Next-Generation Writing evaluates a test-taker’s ability to revise and edit multiparagraph text. Questions cover two broad knowledge and skills categories, each containing three subcategories:
Expression of Ideas
- Effective Language Use
Standard English Conventions
- Sentence Structure
Next-Generation Arithmetic focuses on computation, order of operations, estimation and rounding, comparing and ordering values in different formats, and recognizing equivalent values across formats. The following knowledge and skills categories are assessed:
- Whole Number Operations
- Fraction Operations
- Decimal Operations
- Number Comparisons and Equivalents
Next-Generation Advanced Algebra and Functions (AAF) assesses the following knowledge and skills:
- Linear Equations
- Linear Applications and Graphs
- Radical and Rational Equations
- Polynomial Equations
- Exponential and Logarithmic Equations

Cost of the ACCUPLACER Test
The first ACCUPLACER test for placement is administered free of charge, but the student must have a current application for admission on file prior to testing. If you have not applied for admission then please do so now. UAFS Admission
If a student wishes to retest, a retest fee of $5 per unit (test) must be paid prior to testing. The cashier's office is located on the second floor of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center and takes payment in the form of: cash, debit card, credit card or check. They also take card payments over the phone: 479-788-7060.
To have your official scores sent to another institution, the fee is $5 per test score. We can pull most Compass and ACCUPLACER Test scores that are less than four years old.
The Compass and Accuplacer test scores are good at UAFS for five years.
If a student's Compass or ACCUPLACER test scores have expired, the student will not be required to pay a retest fee for placement.
How to Register for the ACCUPLACER Next-Generation Test
For Fall 2021, any student that needs authorization, not including concurrent, will be processed through Admissions. Please call 479-788-7120 to receive an authorization form before any testing.
When you are ready to test, please email the Gordon Kelley Academic Success Center or call them at 479-788-7675 to schedule your testing appointment. Upon arriving at your scheduled time, you must present your photo ID.
If your testing requires a payment, please visit this link to submit your payment. The ASC will be automatically emailed with a copy of your receipt once payment is submitted.
What to Bring When You Take the ACCUPLACER Test
Please bring a current official photo ID with your current legal name.
Acceptable photo ID:
- Government issued photo ID such as an unexpired driver's license, an Arkansas ID card, or military ID
- School ID card such as a UAFS or high school ID card
- School ID letter/transcript with photo
- Authorization Form – Given by advisement in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center after speaking with an advisor
- Receipt (if applicable) – Acquired from cashier’s office in the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center
You will receive a copy of your score upon completion of the test.
The scores on the ACCUPLACER test will not transfer to another university unless specified by that institution. Students expecting to go to another institution or intending to transfer to another school should take the National ACT, or complete their general education requirements prior to transferring.
UAFS will accept Compass and ACCUPLACER scores from another institution:
- Test scores must be less than five years old at the time you start classes.
UAFS will send your Compass and ACCUPLACER scores to another institution:Please call us at 479.788.7675 or email us at email@example.com and share your email address and birthdate. We will send you copies of your test scores so that you may print or forward to your university of choice.
ACCUPLACER RETEST POLICY
All students seeking admission to UAFS receive one free ACCUPLACER test in the event that he/she does not have course placement based on previous course work or acceptable ACT, SAT scores. Students wishing to retest must pay a $5.00 retest fee per unit. No retests may be given on the same day as the original test. Only three retests are allowed in a 30-day period.
Remote ACCUPLACER Testing
If you need to take the ACCUPLACER at another location, for UAFS placement:
It is sometimes possible for you to test at another location to satisfy your UAFS placement test requirement. This is called “remote testing” and requires an ACCUPLACER voucher. Remote testing can be convenient for you if you are not nearby UAFS. To obtain an ACCUPLACER voucher for a remote test:
- Contact the Academic Success Center at 479.788.7675.
- Inform the staff person you want to take an ACCUPLACER test at another location and require an ACCUPLACER voucher.
- The UAFS staff will obtain and provide you with an ACCUPLACER voucher number.
- Contact a testing institution near you and ask to make an appointment.
- UAFS is not responsible for fees charged by remote institutions.
- An unexpired photo ID is always required, so please make sure your driver’s license, passport, or state ID is current.
This will also work if you are needing to test at UAFS for another university. Contact your university’s testing services in order to obtain a remote voucher number and make an appointment with the Gordon Kelley Academic Success Center to test at UAFS.
